Light and Shadow ~ The Place Where We’re All One

Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly. I can never be what I ought to be until you are what you ought to be.

Martin Luther King, Jr.

The words below, Light and Shadow, weren’t so much inspired by the Martin Luther King, Jr. quote to the right, but as I began typing out a comment on the Facebook post it was attached to, these words came out instead.
The MLK quote reminds me of the Hindi word, Namaste, which is often interpreted in ways similar to this quote. For example:
I honor the place in you which is of love, of truth, of light and of peace. When you and I are both in that place within ourselves, we are one.

Light and Shadow

The point of life is not to rise above.
The point of life is to raise consciousness.

Not the consciousness of others,
but your own.

It is unnecessary (and ill-advised) to teach others
About darkness and light.

Simply allow the luminescence of your own being
To brighten the world.

While your shadows provide contrast
So you and others may see you clearly.
